Fort Collins Area Attractions

Ft. Collins Colorado is located 60 miles North of Denver along the I-25 corridor. It is intersected by Colorado 14. US 287 also goes south to north through the city.  The attractions below are the major attractions in the Ft Collins  area.

Ft Collins Municipal Railway. The antique fully restored city streetcar Old 21. It is the only original restored city streetcar operation in the western US. Open May-Sept Weekends and Holidays 12pm-5pm. Adults $1.00 Children under 12 0.50. Runs from city park down Mountain Ave. to Howes St. and back. Link

 Ft. Collins Environmental Learning Center 3745 E. Prospect. Link.

 Colorado Raptor Program. Large collection of birds of prey on display. A part of the Environmental Learning Center. Link

 Colorado Welcome Center. Just off I-25 at Prospect exit. Go west 1/2 mile entrance on left. 

 Lee Martinez Park & Farm located at 600 N. Sherwood. West of college on the Poudre River. Farm Animals, pony & hay rides and other programs and activities. Link

 Colorado State University Experimental and Display Garden. Located on College Ave and Lake St. This block square garden is planted every Spring. From then until late fall this is one of the most spectacular flower displays in the nation. Link

 The Garden on Spring Creek. This is a new city botanic garden on 18 acres south of Prospect two blocks on Centre Ave. The first phase of construction includes a greenhouse filled with beautiful plants, an attractive meeting room  community gardens, and a stunning ornamental garden with more than 1,000 perennials and 9,000 bulbs. There will also be a 1/2 acre Children's Garden along with extensive fruit and vegetable gardens. Many more gardens will be added in the near future. LINK

 

 Carter Lake is located southwest of Loveland against the foothills. The lake is about 25 miles south of Ft Collins. The lake is 1,100 acre reservoir surrounded by 1,000 acres of public lands. It is a popular spot for sailing, camping, swimming and water skiing. Link

Crystal Rapids Water Park 3601 E. Eisenhower Blvd Loveland, CO. 18,000 sq. ft. pool Kids pool with two slides. Three Large slides. Heated Pool. Concessions.  Link.

Swetsville Zoo is located at the 1-25 Harmony Exit in Timnath, directly east of Ft Collins on Harmony Road. The zoo contains strange metal creatures and wind sculptures made with welding iron and scraps by it's curator Bill Swets a native of the area. You have to see this one to believe and understand. Virginia Dale This historic site now a ghost town is located on highway 287 north of Fort Collins about 25 miles on the way to Laramie Wyoming. As you approach the former famous stage stop there will be highway signs which mark the town. The only thing there now is a little white church and a closed cafe. It was established in 1862 and the former stage staion can still be seen about one mile off the highway to the east. Link

Skate Park at Edora. Opened in 2001 this professionally designed and built facility is extremly popular among the young who skate. It is located at the east end of  East Stuart St where it dead ends at Epic Center. Also there is good parking at the Epic Center Parking Lot. Link

Ft Collins Archery Range. Located on the I-25 frontage road accessed from Prospect Rd. This outdoor archery range is one of the largest and finest around. Thirty one targets available for practice of which eighteen are located on a walk around trail. Comprehensive info available.  Link

Bison Herd and Ranch. Located at the Spomer Bison Ranch and Red Barn Bison Co. You can visit their herd and enjoy the gift shop and meat market. Calves being born are a big attraction in April and May. Link

Fort Vasquez Museum. 13412 Highway 85 south of the city of Platteville. Go back into history and visit an 1835 fur trading fort. This adobe fort and outpost employed such trappers as Baptiste Charbonneau and Jim Beckwourth both featured in the movie Centennial. The fort owners Louis Vasquez and Andrew Sublette were among the first settlers and permanent traders along the South Platte Basin. Link

Natural Fort  This is a very distinctive rock formation just off I-25 north of Ft Collins. From Mulberry exit travel north about 23 miles to the Carr exit.  Terry Bison Ranch  The ranch is actually located in Wyoming just 5 mile north of the Colorado Border. The ranch is home for about 2,500 head bison herd. The bison are also joined here by horses, camels, ostrich, emu, beefalo and other animals. This is a 30,000 acre spread with many things looking like they came out of the old west.  Includes RV Park, cabins and a restaurant. Link
