Severence Colorado

Severance Colorado

FEATURES

Severance Colorado is located about 20 miles East  of Ft. Collins.  The 2000 census stated a population of 597. The estimate now is 1400. Severance is in Weld County which had a population of over 180,000 in 2000. It is now estimated at near 200,000. Severance has a great history of being an agricultural center but is  world famous for an establishment us locals call Bruce's. This bar and restaurant was started and is owned by Bruce Ruth and their specialty is Rocky Mountain Oysters. . A sign which is located on the main corner says Welcome to Severance "where the geese fly and the bulls cry." Since it is centrally located Severance enjoys all of the services of the surrounding communities of Windsor and Ft. Collins but few of the disadvantages.

Severance was founded around 1880 by a Mr. David Severance who came from New Hampshire. He bought land here and was very evolved with the direction of the town. He also served in the Colorado Legislature.

Severance thrived for a short while but with the depression and other technological occurrences the town dwindled down to as low as 60 in the 1970's. As you have seen above the town is back and growing strongly with nearly 1500 people. Small shopping areas, banks and other merchants are now starting or moving out to Severance to serve those people. With it's close proximity to both Ft. Collins and Windsor it has many recreational, shopping and entertainment facilities close at hand while still very rural in nature. For now it is a typical bedroom community.

Happenings Around Severance

A small town weds a small town bank company and the result is the first bank for Severance which has proved very successful since it opened in May. The First National Banks roots is small towns in eastern Colorado. It started in Stratton Colorado and opened it's first branch  in Seibert Colorado. But do not let the small town roots fool you, just take a look at their new building which is fast changing the rough and tumble image of the small western farm community of Severance. The bank's architecture  is very urban looking and sports what is probably a first in Colorado banking and maybe even in the nation. The First National of Severance has it's own coffee bar inside called The Coffee Vault. The bank is well located in a small town which grew 34% from 2003 to 2004 and we will bet that 2005 was a percentage as large. This area has long been known for towns growing in the double digit's every year with it's larger sister of Greeley one of the fastest growing cities in America.
